In today’s episode, I am joined by my incredibly talented friend, Christy Henderson, as she bravely shares her past and almost lifelong struggles with depression. Her stories serve as beacons of light for those navigating similar struggles, offering not just anecdotes but lifelines of understanding and HOPE.
As Christy recounts her journey through postpartum depression and the maze of managing her mental well-being, her voice becomes a guiding light, highlighting the importance of faith in God, community, the strength found in vulnerability, and the transformative impact of seeking qualified professional help.
Christy and I peel away layers of trauma and acknowledge the courage it takes to confront them. Together, we explore the pitfalls of avoiding pain through busyness or addiction, and the profound healing that comes from facing our struggles head-on with honesty. We also touch on the vital role of knowledgeable specialists who aid us in reshaping our narratives, allowing us to shift our perspectives and find relief and hope.
Our conversation emphasizes the beauty of living authentically, the transformative nature of love and trust in our connection with the divine, and the importance of establishing healthy habits for a joy-filled, spiritually enriching life.
Meet Christy Henderson
Christy Henderson is a self-taught Mississippi-based artist and pastor’s wife. Drawing on many reflections of her personal emotional and spiritual journey, her practice is an ever-evolving source of inspiration in her abstract paintings. If you take a close look at her work, you will often find Henderson’s signature handwriting and sketches… expressions of her soul…Holy Scriptures, poems, and prayers… all pointing to her desire to bring eternal hope to the world.
Creativity is in her DNA. Her father was a building contractor by trade. Her mother is an avid gardener and former seamstress. While simplistic in design, Henderson’s artwork consists of a vibrant mix of oils, acrylics, rugged construction materials, and raw textiles. Her canvases tell stories of both struggle and delight, evoking a sense of time and space. Henderson encompasses her research in colour psychology to give her works a sensory effect.
Whether in her studio or elsewhere in the world, the foremost call upon Christy’s life is to express radical love and sincere compassion as she embodies the Spirit of God.
