It was one of those days! I was mentally drained, overwhelmed, and on the verge of throwing in the towel. Ever felt that? A moment where you just want to shout, “I quit!”? I’ve been there. Not too long ago, I was knee-deep in self-doubt, just about ready to wave the white flag.
But here’s a little secret: We’ve all had moments where we wanted to give up because life just seemed too challenging. And while those sneaky negative thoughts do creep in, we have an innate power to overcome them and create a positive shift in our lives.
Over the coming weeks, here on the blog and on The Fit Soul Podcast (Listen to the first episode of this series, Your Royal Identity: Mastering the Habits That Matter here), I am excited to embark on a transformative journey with you. We’re going to delve into how the intricate pathways of our brain (hello, neuroscience!) impact our choices and decisions. And guess what? It’s all connected back to our thoughts and beliefs.
Thought- to- Action Pathway:
- Thoughts & Emotions – Recognize and address them.
- Beliefs – Challenge them. Are they serving you?
- Decision – Make choices aligned with your goals.
- Actions – Implement and adjust as needed.
- Results – Celebrate your progress and growth!
By understanding and working with this process, you can identify and modify negative thought patterns or broken beliefs to make better decisions, engage in more beneficial actions, and achieve desired results.
In essence, it’s about how what you think affects how you feel, which then shapes what you believe and decide to do, leading to actions and, ultimately, specific results in your life.
Ok, let’s get started, before we can get forward motion on true change, we start with must start identity. This term is tossed around alot, but understanding this concept will help you understand why you keep going back to the very thing you don’t want to do and staying stuck, stagnant and frustrated.
Who are you?
No, seriously, think about it. Stanford’s JAMES MARCH has a fascinating identity model where he suggests we often ask ourselves three questions, either consciously or unconsciously:
- Who am I, genuinely?
- What challenges am I facing at this moment?
- Given my identity, how should I react in this situation?
Before you can start any transformation, you must address your self-identity.
Behavior modification does not create lasting change.
Here’s the thing, when you are not getting the results you want in life, when you are consistently making choices that are not congruent with goals, it is time to bring awareness to your actions, and challenge your thought processes and perhaps what is driving your behavior.
Identifying the Culprits
From my own journey and the countless women I’ve had the privilege to coach in the Walk WORTHY Mentorship and with my 1:1 coaching clients, there are some familiar roadblocks that keep coming up and actually govern our lives, mindsets, actions and inactions:
- People-Pleasing: Always prioritizing others.
- Self-Doubt: The ever-present question of worthiness.
- Fear of Failure: Hesitating to take that crucial step.
- Perfectionism: Seeking the unattainable.
- Overwhelm: The struggle of handling it all.
- Guilt & Obligation: The heavy burden of “shoulds.”
- Comparison: Stealing your unique joy.
- Avoidance: Sidestepping the challenging situations.
These “familiar roadblocks” are actually lies that govern our lives, mindsets, actions and inactions.
How about you? What “lie” has been your roadblock. Even though you have been actively trying to change, this core issue keeps coming back and keeps you stuck and frustrated.

However, the real pivot is in understanding where you want to be. To shift our identity, and have transformation change, we must uncover these core lies that govern our lives and replace them with the truth of who God says we are.
Rediscover Your Royal Identity
One of the most powerful agents of transformational change for a believer is understanding who you truly are, I call this your Royal identity. What do I mean by Royal Identity? This is believing who God says that you are. This is becoming and embracing who you are and Whose you are.
As you pinpoint the negative mindsets and start to embrace your royal identity, you will start to close this gap.
Here are 3 questions you can ask yourself:
- What negative thoughts do I have on replay in my mind and in my heart is incongruent with my royal identity?
- In order for me to embrace my royal identity, what negative belief and lie can I start to let go of today? (ex: failure, loser, unloved, unnecessary, less than, too old, not good enough etc)
- Which pattern of behavior (ex perfectionism, people pleasing, comparison) is is consistently sabotaging my time, energy, and progress?
The bible says this: I know that you delight to set your truth deep in my spirit. So come into the hidden places of my heart and teach me wisdom. Psalm 51:6 TPT.
God wants to heal and reconcile those broken pieces in your heart that have become your self-identity and replace it with the TRUTH of who you really are.
Let’s close this gap of self-identity and embrace your royal identity.
